Woodbrook Farm Vineyard

Can you provide a brief overview of the history and founding of your winery?

Family-owned/operated vineyard and tasting room located in Montpelier Station, Virginia near historic James Madison’s Montpelier. Please join us at the Training Barn Tasting Room as we celebrate our legacy of horse racing champions along with our newest champion Woodbrook Farm Vineyard wine.

What inspired the establishment of your winery, and how has it evolved over the years?

We have an amazing piece of property that has beautiful panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. In 2021, as a family, we decided to embark on a new venture of viticulture. Our family background was farming, which included mostly horses and cattle. We converted what used to be our Racehorse Training Barn into the Tasting Room.

Are there any unique stories or anecdotes associated with the founding of your winery?

Our father, Noel Twyman, was an elite horseman who was inducted into both the Virginia Horse Shows Association Hall of Fame and the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame. Noel’s passion for Show Hunters changed to Racehorses in the late 60s, when he began riding Steeplechase horses for Marion DuPont Scott. This then led to Noel creating a successful business in breaking and training 2-year-old Thoroughbred racehorses and Steeplechase racehorses which established Woodbrook Farm. This legacy of champions inspired the family of Noel Twyman to embark on a new adventure of champion Virginia Wines. The “Training Barn” that was built in 1982 is now the home to Woodbrook Farm Vineyard’s wine tasting room. Vaughan Jenkins and Robert Twyman (Noel’s children) and their spouses Noel Jenkins and Carey Twyman began the renovations in August of 2021. We would love for you to come visit to hear more of the stories of our history, see beautiful views of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and most importantly taste great wines.

Can you highlight a few of your flagship or signature wines and what makes them stand out?

Cabernet Franc, Viognier and Samba (white blend)

Are there specific grape varieties that thrive in your vineyards, and why were they chosen?

Petit Manseng is thriving in our vineyard. The perfect combination of soil, drainage, and perfect growing seasons have allowed this varietal to thrive in our vineyard.

Describe the atmosphere and experience visitors can expect at your tasting room.

They are always greeted by an owner. Relaxed, laid back, welcoming, fun, peaceful, amazing views and amazing wines are just a few adjectives we hear from our customers.
